Leeds Rhinos have announced the appointment of Chev Walker as their new Transition Coach, a role designed to strengthen the pathway between the club’s youth development programs and the first team. In this capacity, Walker will oversee both the reserve and academy teams, ensuring a seamless progression for emerging talent within the organization.
Walker, a former Leeds Rhinos player with extensive experience, expressed enthusiasm about his new position, stating, “I get to support the fringe players within the first team, but also work all the way down through the Under 18s into the scholarship level.” This comprehensive approach aims to provide consistent guidance and support to players at all stages of their development.
This appointment comes as part of a broader restructuring within the Rhinos’ coaching staff. The club recently welcomed Jamie Langley as an assistant coach, a move that facilitated Walker’s transition into his new role. Walker’s history with Leeds Rhinos is notable. After returning to the club in 2020, he served as an assistant head coach alongside Scott Grix under Rohan Smith. In June 2024, following Smith’s departure, Walker and Grix jointly assumed interim head coaching responsibilities, highlighting the club’s trust in his leadership capabilities.
