When the Texas Longhorns want to add a key contributor to their football program, they have little issue landing their target. On Friday, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian leveraged his commonality with Nick Saban to get a big fish in the recruiting world.
Texas is set to hire Errin Joe, General Manager from Georgia Tech, for the role of Director of Scouting in Austin, as reported by 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
Joe, a former Georgia Tech offensive lineman, has been with the Yellow Jackets since 2023, where he held the positions of Director of Player Personnel and General Manager.
In 2022, he was part of the Alabama coaching staff under Nick Saban, serving as Assistant Director of Player Personnel during the signing of the Tide’s last No. 1-ranked class in 2023. Before his time at Alabama, Joe spent a brief period as the Director of Recruiting at UConn before the call from the Crimson Tide. He began his career at Georgia Tech in 2018 as a graduate assistant working with the offensive line.
Over the last few years, the Yellow Jackets have shown steady improvement. In 2024, they pushed future SEC Champion Georgia to eight overtimes in Athens, eventually losing 44-42. The Yellow Jackets wrapped up the season with a 7-5 record, including victories over No. 10 Florida State and No. 4 Miami. Unfortunately, they fell to Vanderbilt in their bowl game last December.
On the recruiting front, Georgia Tech finished No. 21 nationally in 2025, according to the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings, surpassing teams like Clemson, Nebraska, Arkansas, and Colorado. They ranked No. 33 in 2024 and No. 61 in 2023, indicating significant progress over recent seasons.
In terms of the Transfer Portal, Georgia Tech saw 18 players depart during the 2025 window, reflecting the staff’s strong evaluations in talent acquisition in Atlanta. This included Eric Singleton Jr., a former Texas target who opted for Auburn after visiting Austin in December.
Joe is among several new additions Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has made this offseason. Other hires include Senior Player Personnel Coordinator Josh Dunson from Memphis, Jason McEndoo from Oklahoma State, defensive ends coach LaAllan Clark from Ohio State, and defensive backs coach Mark Orphey from Rutgers, who is taking over for departing safeties coach Blake Gideon
Texas is also searching for a new running backs coach after Tashard Choice took the position with the Detroit Lions.
