Many of us expected big things from Zack Martin when he was drafted in the first-round of the 2014 NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys, and the former Notre Dame star guard didn’t disappoint.
The offensive lineman was named to the NFL’s 2010 All-Decade Team, while making nine Pro Bowls after a stellar career in the Blue and Gold. At the age of 34, Martin had decided to hang up his cleats and move away from the game. Unfortunately, an ankle injury prevented him from playing the whole season, as he was ruled out with a surgery following the first ten games of this past year.
It was quite the decorated career for Martin, who many consider one of the greatest guard in the history of the NFL. An immediate starter for the Cowboys, he helped cement their line as one of the best in all of football. Martin was named as an All-Pro his first season, the only rookie to make it that year, and the first Dallas first-year player on that list since 1969.
Now that Martin has retired, his most likely next destination is Canton, Ohio at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It’s just a matter of time until he is enshrined with his own bust. Congrats Zack on a great NFL career!
