Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested that the metaphorical “wall” dividing Russia and the West is not likely to come down anytime soon.

He argues that this division is not something Russia created, but rather the result of actions taken by Western countries. In his view, the West has consistently tried to pressure and isolate Russia through sanctions, military alliances, and political rhetoric, leaving Moscow with little choice but to respond defensively.

Putin believes that these tensions are rooted in the West’s refusal to accept Russia as a strong, independent power with its own interests. He asserts that instead of seeking cooperation, Western nations have attempted to contain Russia, viewing it as a threat rather than a potential partner. Because of this continued hostility and mistrust, he claims the divide—this symbolic “wall”—is being reinforced rather than dismantled.

Furthermore, Putin contends that Western governments are using the conflict to unify their own populations and distract from domestic issues. He insists that the current geopolitical climate, driven by what he sees as Western arrogance and strategic overreach, leaves no room for mutual understanding or reconciliation. As a result, he does not expect the situation to improve in the near future. To him, the persistence of this “wall” is the outcome of a larger ideological battle and a refusal by the West to respect Russia’s sovereignty and position on the global stage.
