West Ham are reportedly “close to signing” West Brom attacker Grady Diangana in the summer transfer window, bringing him back to the club in the process.
The Hammers are preparing to begin an exciting new era this summer, with David Moyes’ second spell in charge coming to an end.
Julen Lopetegui is believed to be on the verge of being as the Scot’s replacement as West Ham manager, in what has the potential to be a successful appointment.
The 57-year-old has enjoyed spells with Spain and Real Madrid in the past, as well as a short stint at Wolves boss, and he is a Europa League winner from his Sevilla days.
Lopetegui will understandably be eyeing new signings, in order to add a freshness to the Hammers’ squad, with attacking reinforcements needed, especially with Michail Antonio’s future up in the air.
According to Africa Foot United [via Sport Witness], West Ham are now “close to signing” Diangana from West Ham, with a number of Premier League clubs interested in snapping him up.
The 26-year-old was a Hammers player at both youth team and senior level earlier in his career, spending a decade in east London overall, prior to moving to the Hawthorns back in 2020.
West Ham re-signing Diangana could be an intriguing piece of business, with the DR Congo international growing as a footballer since departing four years ago.
He has scored 22 goals and chipped in with 19 assists in 167 appearances for the Baggies, while Lee Hendrie once described him as a “magnificent” player.
Some West Ham supporters may not be too excited with the rumour, considering Diangana would be coming from a Championship club, but Lopetegui could see him as someone he can develop further, ensuring he makes the step up to Premier League level.
The five-cap Congo ace also only has one year left on his current West Brom deal, meaning the Baggies could be happy to move him on for before he is able to leave on a free transfer in the summer of 2025.
Diangana might not necessarily be seen as a key starter for West Ham if he signs, but he could be a good squad player, adding competition for places in various areas, with his versatility allowing him to play centrally and out wide.
