Evan Sidery of Forbes reported Thursday that the 76ers will “likely” target veteran big man Andre Drummond as a free agent this offseason (noting that they also chased Drummond at the February trade deadline this year). Sidery mentions the Phoenix Suns as another NBA team with previously registered interest in Drummond that could circle back to him over the summer as well.
Drummond, still only 30, played for the 76ers during the 2021-22 season, serving as the backup to Joel Embiid. He signed with the Chicago Bulls in 2022 and spent the last two seasons with them, building back some nice value with 8.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per game off the bench this year.
A two-time All-Star and four-time NBA rebounding leader, Drummond is still prone to some low-IQ plays every now and then. But for a 76ers team that struggled this year with a makeshift center rotation of Paul Reed and Mo Bamba when Embiid missed significant time due to injury, a reliable backup big like Drummond would really help matters.
