Los Angeles Rams linebacker Byron Young has been fined $7,014.19 following a missed facemask penalty in a game-deciding call against the Minnesota Vikings.
The play resulted in a safety against Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold and effectively secured the Rams’ 30-20 victory.
With just over 1:30 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Vikings trailed by eight points and needed a touchdown and a two-point conversion to push the game into overtime.
After the defeat that dropped the Vikings to 5-2 on the season, Darnold did not place all the blame on the missed call.
As an offense, we’ve got to just be more consistent,” Darnold told reporters. “The facemask, it is what it is. I thought we could have done a lot to not put ourselves in the situation we were in.”
Overall, Darnold had an impressive showing in Week 8, completing 18-of-25 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns.
The Vikings and Darnold will look to bounce back on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts at home.
