Just a day after Jim Montgomery called him the most impactful player on the Bruins’ roster, Hampus Lindholm limped off the ice and directly into the dressing room late in the first period on Tuesday’s game at St. Louis.
He didn’t return for the start of the second period. The Bruins announced he wouldn’t return with a lower body injury.
Lindholm went down after blocking a shot by Justin Faulk with 3:08 left in the first.
His loss would be significant. Lindholm is second on the Bruins in ice time at 21:38. He was just moved to the lone defenseman spot on the team’s No. 1 power play.
His injury likely will spark a roster move and somebody boarding a plane from Providence even as a precautionary measure. The Bruins were in the first game of a two-city road trip. Andrew Peeke is already injured, but not on injured reserve. Jim Montgomery said the team wasn’t ready to make move. They sent down Matt Poitras on Monday and didn’t make a corresponding call-up leaving them with no extra skaters.
