On Tuesday, the Buffalo Bills announced they signed a former Notre Dame standout. The news comes as they are set to part ways with a former draft pick on the offensive line after they suffered an injury during OTAs this spring.
The Buffalo Bills waived Tommy Doyle
The Bills are preparing for the mandatory part of OTAs this month. They’ll need to take a look at adding depth on the offensive line. Per a statement by the Bills, the team placed 2021 fifth-round pick Tommy Doyle on the waived/injured list.
Doyle had suffered a few severe injuries since being drafted. He has injured his ACL and LCL in the previous two seasons. Doyle appeared in 12 games for the Bills since the 2021 season.
The Bills signed former Notre Dame LB Shayne Simon
With a roster spot open because of the move to waive Doyle, the team signed undrafted rookie linebacker Shayne Simon. Simon participated in the Bills rookie minicamp in May:
Simon played in 12 games at middle linebacker for Pittsburgh last season. He compiled 48 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks. He played in 25 total games in two seasons in Pittsburgh.
From 2018-2021, he played in 32 games for Notre Dame.
Simon, 24, is a native of West Orange, NJ. He earned a degree in finance from Notre Dame and enrolled at Pitt’s Katz Graduate School of Business earning a master’s degree in supply chain management.”
Simon will wear the No. 49 jersey.
