The Pittsburgh Steelers’ quest to add an upgrade at wide receiver continues. After the team was unsuccessful in its attempt to land San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk during the offseason, the team also struck out on veteran wide receiver Davante Adams last month.
The Steelers saw a clear upgrade in the passing game when they inserted Russell Wilson into the lineup over Justin Fields, but if Pittsburgh really wants to reach its ceiling, the team must give Wilson and No. 1 wide receiver George Pickens some help.

Pittsburgh Steelers trade rumors
UPDATE: Things have been quiet on the trade front for the Steelers, but NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero believes that Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton could be made available, although he won’t be cheap. Nevertheless, that would give the Steelers another option to go after, and a good one, at that.
Pelissero added that he thinks the Steelers will come away with someone before the deadline.
END OF UPDATE
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Steelers are calling about “any and all” wide receivers that are available, but he mentions two names specifically: the Carolina Panthers’ Adam Thielen and the New York Jets’ Mike Williams.
“The Steelers have been making calls and checking on any and all available wide receivers before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET trade deadline, including the Jets’ Mike Williams and the Panthers’ Adam Thielen, according to league sources,” he wrote. “The Steelers will continue pushing in an attempt to improve by the deadline, but they are far from the only team looking to better position themselves for the second half of the season.”
While this doesn’t matter much now, Schefter adds that the Steelers had a deal for Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Christian Kirk in the works before he suffered a season-ending broken collarbone. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport echoes that report.
The Steelers have been linked to Williams in a rumor before, with the earlier report saying the Steelers and Jets were in talks about the veteran wide receiver but paused them ahead of their Week 7 matchup.
Thielen is definitely a new name when it comes to players linked to the Steelers via rumor.
The 34-year-old is currently working his way back from a stint on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury. He had his 21-day window opened on Oct. 23, so he has time to be activated. Thielen did log two limited sessions at practice this week, so he appears to be inching closer.
