Kentucky basketball has two roster spots remaining for the upcoming season and new head coach Mark Pope could be on the cusp of filling them as soon as this week.
The Wildcats began their host of Chaz Lanier yesterday after he spent the weekend with BYU. Today, Jamie Vinson will take his turn visiting with Pope and his staff.
Vinson, a 3-star power forward, recently visited with South Carolina last week and Rutgers over the weekend before making his stop in Lexington. He was committed to Vanderbilt before Jerry Stackhouse was relieved of his duties. Vinson then reopened his recruiting and is looking to make a final decision as summer nears.
Every college basketball team needs depth — just look at South Carolina (women) and Connecticut (men) this season. Both were incredibly deep and were pretty much immune to fatigue or foul trouble. They’d both wear down their opponent by rotating in very good players and that style of basketball lead to a national championship for each school.
Vinson would be a solution for Kentucky’s front-court depth, joining the likes of Amari Williams, Andrew Carr and Brandon Garrison in the team’s rotation of big men.
Looking at Pope’s staff and their closing ratio over the last several weeks with both recruits and current players in the transfer portal, fans should feel confident their team will finish strong filling these final two spots for this upcoming season’s roster.
