New York Liberty star Betnijah Laney-Hamilton’s knee surgery:
Betnijah Laney-Hamilton, the New York Liberty guard, underwent successful surgery on her right knee on July 16, 2024, and is expected to return after the Olympic break, which could be anywhere between four to six weeks.
Laney-Hamilton had a minor procedure to remove two loose bodies in her knee, which was causing her knee to be “puffy” according to head coach Sandy Brondello.
The Liberty star has been out for the last three games due to the injury and has been averaging 12.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists for New York, who currently has the best record in the league.
In the upcoming game, the Liberty may continue to employ WNBA rookie Leonie Fiebich in Laney-Hamilton’s starting place. Fiebich has recently had a successful run, with 26 points and 10 rebounds over the last two games.
Laney-Hamilton’s injury is a setback for the Liberty, but the team has a busy injury report beyond Laney-Hamilton, including Breanna Stewart, Nyara Sabally and Kayla Thornton, all of whom are listed as questionable for various reasons.
