According to the Sun, West Ham United are not willing to meet Corinthians’ asking price for promising teenager Wesley Gassova.
Wesley is a highly-rated talent, and the Hammers have been trying to secure a deal for him. We have already agreed one signing from Brazil, with Fabrico Bruno from Flamengo agreeing to join the club.
West Ham’s director of football, Tim Steidten, has scouted extensively in Brazil and recently made two trips to South America around West Ham’s Europa League quarter-final. Steidten believed he was close to finalising a deal for the young prodigy, but Wesley’s value has nearly doubled following a surge in form. While West Ham are interested in the 19-year-old, they are not prepared to pay the £30 million currently demanded.
Wesley progressed through the youth ranks at Corinthians and broke into the first team in 2022. This year, he has made 26 appearances across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing two assists.
He has also played in continental competition, featuring in the Copa Sudamericana and scoring in Corinthians’ most recent group game against Argentinos Juniors.
