Official: Golden State Warriors Secure New Point Guard on Two-Way Contract

The Golden State Warriors have bolstered their backcourt by signing Australian point guard Taran Armstrong to a two-way contract, as announced on February 26, 2025. This strategic move aims to enhance the team’s depth and versatility at the guard position.

At 23 years old, Armstrong has showcased his talent in Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL) with the Cairns Taipans. Standing at 6-foot-6, he delivered impressive averages of 17.1 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.6 rebounds per game. His collegiate career at California Baptist University further highlighted his playmaking abilities, where he averaged 10.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 5.6 assists over 59 games.

The two-way contract allows Armstrong to split his time between the Warriors and their G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors. This arrangement provides him with the opportunity to adapt to the NBA’s competitive environment while contributing to both teams. His size and court vision are expected to complement the Warriors’ existing guard lineup, offering flexibility in various game scenarios.

Armstrong joins a roster featuring seasoned players like Stephen Curry, Gary Payton II, and Buddy Hield. His addition comes at a pivotal time, as the Warriors aim to strengthen their position in the Western Conference standings. The team’s recent acquisition of Jimmy Butler has already had a positive impact, and integrating Armstrong’s skills could further enhance their offensive and defensive strategies.

The Warriors’ management has expressed optimism about Armstrong’s potential. His international experience and proven track record in the NBL suggest a promising transition to the NBA. The organization believes that his development within their system will be mutually beneficial, contributing to the team’s success while advancing his professional growth.

Taran Armstrong’s signing reflects the Golden State Warriors’ commitment to nurturing diverse talent and reinforcing their roster for the challenges ahead. As the season progresses, his integration into the team will be closely watched by analysts and fans alike, eager to see the impact of this strategic acquisition.
